ARRL DXCC Desk Approves 3V8SS Operation
ARRL DXCC Manager Bill Moore, NC1L, reports that the 2007 3V8SS DXpedition to Tunisia has been approved for DXCC credit. “If you had cards rejected for this operation, please send an e-mail to the ARRL DXCC Desk and you will be placed on the list for update,” Moore said.

 

Thai Hams Now Authorized to Operate on More Bands
On October 12, radio amateurs in Thailand were granted permission to operate on 12, 17 and 30 meters and in the CW portion of the 80 and 160 meters on a permanent basis. Before this time, Thai hams had only been able to operate on the 80 and 160 meters on weekends during international contests; authorization to operate on 12, 17 and 30 meters was only granted on a few occasions for certain special event stations.

Syrian amateurs may use the 6C60 prefix from October 15 to November 11 in celebration of 60 years of amateur radio here.

Secretary General of ITU Now Licensed Amateur
Dr Hamadoun Touré, Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), received his Amateur Radio license October 8. Touré, who holds the call sign HB9EHT, is from Mali. He has a Master’s Degree in electrical engineering from the Technical Institute of Electronics and Telecommunications of Leningrad and a PhD from the University of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics of Moscow.
